Thunder Blooms
+ a little Mushroom Zine just for You!
Hello Friend!
We’ve had lots of big thunderstorms lately. It’s honestly welcome relief from the record breaking drought that plagued us earlier this spring.
It also means lots and lots of mushrooms!
I can hardly wait to get out on my afternoon walks to see what’s up & what’s new.
I thought I’d share some of the photos with you, because I’ve come across some spectacular finds lately.
Like this super bloom of American Caesar mushrooms. I guess since we’re talking about mushrooms, it’s what I’d call a thunder bloom.
I’ve never seen so many American Caesars. They were everywhere.
I had to be careful where I was walking because there were so many little ones popping up everywhere.
I’ll be sure to post more of my fungi finds below. I’ve decided not to name them though, just to give you a chance to sit in the mystery for a moment or two.
I hope it gives you a chance to wonder at their mysterious forms and their dreamy colors. Maybe even have a little fun and come up with your own names for them—just like your ancestors used to do.
I’ve come up with some names myself, but I’ll list at the bottom of all the photos so as not to influence your own naming. If you do decide to name some yourself, let me know in the comments below. I’d love to hear what you come up with!
Ok, so the spirit of having fun, how about a little gift? I figure we could probably all use a little gift right about now. Yes?
A little Mushroom Zine for you…
All this exciting mushroom activity inspired me to create a little zine.
It’s something I wanted to make last year when I released my mushroom bandana, but alas, I didn’t get around to it.
Anyway, here you go—just download, assemble & enjoy! You could also think of it like a tiny coloring book and color it it.
What about you? Are you seeing lots of mushrooms in your area? Drop a comment and let me know!
💐All the Best,
Nina
PS—My new bandana announcement arrives next week!
In the meantime, here are some other fun finds…
Here are some of the names I came up with, in no particular order: Satan’s Trumpet, Dough Boy, Yellow Gnome, Victorian Ghost, Wonderbread, & Chocolate Polliwog

Your pictures are spectacular. We have a lot in our yard, too. And some are a favorite edible, chanterelles. The squirrels like the pink ones and a few others.
Love the zine!!
